Aims of the Trust:
1. To assist relief of persons affected by Encephalitis Lethargica(EL) and their families.
2. To advance the education of the medical profession and the general public on the subject of EL and its implications for the family.
3. To promote research into the management of EL and to publish useful results.
The work is in progress
The Sophie Cameron Trust is already funding a wide range of research projects on various aspects of EL by scientists and doctors in the UK the USA and Russia, as summarized in the research overview. We are about to start a national surveillnce programme for EL in the UK, which we hope will provide near-complete surveillance of the disease across the UK. The information obtained from this study may help us to better diagnose and treat future patients with EL. Long-term follow up will provide better information about the disease itself, and may lead to better treatment options for the patients. With such data, real progress can be made. The Trust is seeking to support medically oriented research into various aspects of EL and its treatment, including research on experimental treatments which offer hope for the future.
